Marine Biologist

Lady Musgrave Experience is seeking experienced and passionate Marine Biologists to join our crew. Lady Musgrave Experience is a 5 star Advanced Eco, ROC and Climate Action Certified tourism operation on the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Our Marine Biologists are tourism superstars, delivering eco-educational content to guests on board our day tour and whilst at HQ – our flagship product – a permanently moored pontoon in the pristine Coral Cay of Lady Musgrave Island central to our day tour and overnight experiences.

The successful candidate will possess a passion for leading high quality guest experiences including Marine Biologist for a day, Citizens Science projects and acting as host to guests on overnight “Sleep on the Reef” experiences. The ability to engage guests in Marine Biology lead activities as well as deliver inspiring and immersive educational commentary is essential for this role. Attention to detail, demonstrated organizational and leadership skills, advanced communication skills and confident and engaging public speaking are essential.

As we work in tourism, this position requires the successful candidate to maintain a flexible roster, which may include weekends and public holidays. For the right person, overnight stays with guests at HQ will be an option.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver immersive and inspiring eco-educational commentary to guests on Lady Musgrave Island and the surrounding coral cay. Highlighting the unique significance of this island to bird populations and its highly crucial role as a turtle nesting ground and hatchery; particularly to the critically endangered Hawksbill and Loggerhead, and vulnerable Green turtles;
  • Deliver engaging eco-educational commentary relevant to seasonal variations in marine life in the region. From turtle nesting and hatching night tours to whale watching tours and the exciting manta ray season… Lady Musgrave Experience delivers it all and our Marine Biologists are central to engaging our guests in the excitement of these marine wonders;
  • Guide glass bottom boat tours across the coral cay and provide engaging and exciting educational talks highlighting the biodiversity of this unique island and its surrounding cay;
  • When required, deliver inspiring and exciting content to camera for media famil;
  • Report COTS, drupella and marine debris counts;
  • Be proactive in leading self and groups in the collection of marine debris, COTS and drupella and manage the removal of this from the reef, lagoon and island;
  • Lead teams in undertaking surveys or monitoring of reef conditions as required including guiding diving tours, including training and instructing participants – when required;
  • You will be encouraged to initiate research projects and seek funding – support in this endeavour will be provided;
  • Act as host to all guests, provide engaging conversation and informative content;
  • Deliver educational content to school groups (with the opportunity to visit schools to present talks, if required)

The successful applicant will:

  • Have relevant qualifications in Marine Biology or Marine Ecology. Any of the following will be considered if a proven specialisation in marine can be shown – Biology, Environmental Science, Animal Ecology (please submit this and any supporting evidence with your resume);
  • Display an indepth understanding of Marine ecosystems, coral reef ecology and the factors impacting reef health;
  • Current Diving Instructor Certification or Dive Master is required, however and open water diving certification may be accepted;
  • Coxswain or other marine certifications will be advantageous;
  • Current CPR, First Aid and advanced Oxygen resuscitation are essential or there must be willingness to obtain;
  • A commitment to the deliverance of high quality customer service is essential;
  • A passionate for the reef and guest education is essential;
  • Be a confident public speaker and have excellent communication skills;
  • Be committed to Eco-tourism and Sustainability tourism;
  • Master Reef Guide or Eye on the Reef certification highly regarded
  • Experience in COTS and Drupella identification and safe removal is advantageous;
  • Experience in coral restoration is advantageous;
  • Experience in a similar Marine tourism operation is advantageous;
  • It is a requirement for this position that the applicant is IELTS level 8 or 9 in English. Multilingual applicants will be highly regarded;

Lady Musgrave Experience operates daily tours from the Port of Bundaberg to Lady Musgrave Island on the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

We offer full day tours including guided snorkeling tours, glass bottom boat tours, guided island walks and scuba diving.

A fun and energetic Chinese speaking tour guide/cruise attendant is required.

Clear and fluent English to Chinese (fluent in Mandarin) is essential for delivering educational tour information and safety instructions.

Tour guide experience within a reef or island setting will be highly regarded.

Dive Instructor or Dive Master qualifications are also highly regarded for this position. Knowledge of swimming and water safety will also be highly regarded.

WORK IN PARADISE

Lady Musgrave Experience are seeking a qualified Chef or Cook (grade 4 +) for overnight hosting experiences onboard Lady Musgrave HQ pontoon ‘sleep on the reef’ accommodation.

The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and cooking breakfast and dinner for up to 26 guests with rotating set menus. This is an average 4 day roster, Fri-Mon (set days) and 3 days off.  This may vary on occasion for special event groups. Responsibilities also include all food and alcohol ordering and stock control. Applicants must be exceptional communicators and high quality customer service providers. This is an exciting and unique work environment with a front facing role where you are engaged with, and hosting guests. Candidates with qualifications relevant to marine tourism (such as dive instructor certification, coxswain, marine biology) are encouraged to apply.

Please note this position requires you to stay overnight at the HQ Pontoon from Fri – Mon inclusive.  This is a permanent feature of this role.  Marine experience, or having worked on live-aboards,  is an advantage.

Divers will guide day and overnight guests across a vast array of experiences from Mandarin Fish night dives to Manta Rays and Sharks on the Outer Reef during the day. Diving activities cover a vast range of sites located on the Southern Great Barrier Reef including however not limited to:

What you will bring to the role:

Marine Seek Pty Ltd is looking for experienced and professional AMSA certified MED I ‘s to join our onboard operations team.

    Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 (MED 1) Engineer:

Our vessels are maintained to the highest standard. Previous experience in maintaining all systems on high speed passenger vessels is essential. The successful candidate will posses excellent customer service and communication skills and be a confident and experienced Engineer.  Attention to detail is they key to success in this role with a focus on preventative/scheduled maintenance.

As Marine Engineer within this company you will:
